Effective ways to improve Business Analysis

Hello everyone!

Today, let’s talk about something super important for every business, big or small, especially here in Tamil Nadu: Business Analysis. Think of it like a doctor looking at your body to understand what’s good and what needs fixing. Business analysis is simply understanding your business deeply to find out what’s working, what’s not, and how to make things much, much better!

Whether you run a small shop in Erode, a big factory in Chennai, or a tech startup in Coimbatore, understanding your business well is the first step to making it grow and earn more money. We’ve helped many businesses in Tamil Nadu achieve great success by using simple, smart business analysis.

So, how do we do it effectively? Let’s break it down into easy steps:

  1. Step 1: Clearly Understand the Problem or Goal

Before you start anything, you need to know exactly what you want to achieve or what problem you’re trying to solve. It’s like knowing your destination before starting a journey.

Example from Tamil Nadu: Imagine a famous ‘saree’ shop in Kanchipuram called “Samy Silks.” For years, they sold sarees only from their physical shop. Now, they want to start selling online. Their goal is clear: “Sell sarees online to customers across India.” If they didn’t have this clear goal, they wouldn’t know where to begin.

  2. Step 2: Talk to the Right People

To understand a business, you need to talk to everyone involved. This includes your staff, your customers, and even your suppliers. They all have different pieces of the puzzle.

Example from Tamil Nadu: A small hotel in Madurai, “Meenakshi Residency,” wants to attract more families. We would talk to the hotel staff (front desk, kitchen, housekeeping) to understand their daily challenges. More importantly, we would talk to families who have stayed there, or even those who chose another hotel, to understand what they look for. This helps us know what changes are needed, maybe adding a play area or family rooms.

  3. Step 3: Collect Information and Data

Once you know the problem and have talked to people, you need facts! This means collecting data. Data can be anything from sales records, customer feedback forms, website visits, or even how many people walk into your shop.

Example from Tamil Nadu: “Anbu Provision Store,” a local ‘kirana’ shop in Salem, wants to know which products are most popular. They start writing down every sale: “how many packets of milk were sold today?”, “how many kilos of rice this week?”. This simple data collection helps them understand what customers buy most and what they should keep in stock more often.

  4. Step 4: Look at the Numbers and Find Patterns

Collecting data is good, but looking at it to find out what it tells you is even better! This is where you connect the dots. What trends do you see? What surprises you?

Example from Tamil Nadu: “Chennai Dosa Point,” a restaurant in Chennai, looks at its daily sales data. They notice that on weekends, ‘Masala Dosa’ and ‘Filter Coffee’ sales double, but ‘Idli’ sales stay the same. This pattern tells them to prepare more Masala Dosa and Filter Coffee ingredients for weekends, and perhaps run a special offer on Idli during weekdays.

  5. Step 5: Make a Simple Plan

Now that you understand everything, it’s time to make a plan of action. What steps will you take to solve the problem or reach your goal? Keep the plan simple and actionable.

Example from Tamil Nadu: A school in Coimbatore, “Bright Future School,” realized from analysis that many parents worry about their child’s English speaking skills. Their plan: “Start an evening English speaking club for students, run by a new teacher. Promote it on local social media groups and school notice boards.” This plan is clear and easy to follow.

  6. Step 6: Check How Things are Going

After you put your plan into action, don’t just forget about it! You need to regularly check if it’s working. Are you getting closer to your goal? Are there new problems?

Example from Tamil Nadu: A small handicraft business in Mahabalipuram, “Shore Temple Crafts,” started selling their items online after analysis. Now, every month, they check: “How many sales came from the website? Are customers happy with delivery? Are they leaving good reviews?” If sales are low, they might try new marketing ideas. If reviews are bad, they fix the delivery process.

Improving business analysis is not a one-time thing. It’s an ongoing journey. By following these simple steps, any business in Tamil Nadu can make smarter decisions, grow faster, and serve their customers better.

Remember, knowing your business inside out is your superpower!

Happy analysing!
